Bebo: Friend or Foe?
Blog Early, Blog Often.
From this simple idea bebo was born. Over a couple of years the whole dynamic of bebo has changed. Bebo has gone from a blogging site to a bragging site. The main use of bebo now seems to be self promotion. Not self promotion in any kind of a positive way. The emphasis is on Saturday night antics and a distorted view of popularity. When signing into your bebo site you are now greeted by pictures of drunken friends or family members. That’s a sight we could all do without.
Since I first joined Bebo the rules seem to have changed: pictures of sober people appear to have been banned, soft porn is not only acceptable it is encouraged. It seems that every month the average age of bebo users gets younger and younger. We’ve all seen the inappropriate pictures of ‘teenie boppers’ posing as eighteen and nineteen year olds. Kind of makes you wonder doesn’t it?
Don’t get me wrong Bebo is not all bad it is a great tool for keeping in contact with old friends. On a much broader note Bebo could be seen as being good for the economy as teenagers spend a lot of their money in internet cafes on bebo – often leaving comments to the person sitting beside them. What’s with that anyway?
From reading this blog you would probably assume that I am a narky old woman, buy I am in fact a narky 18 year old girl. While I do use bebo, I dislike doing so. It goes against what I believe in but I’m drawn to it like a moth to a flame. And so ends my disjointed rant. I’ll just leave you with this thought – knowing what you do about the antics of beboer’s would you let your children on it?
